My experiences with art started early...Both parents were artists. Through them, I saw the beauty in the Natural world and learned to express myself as much with pictures as with words.
My dad had a studio in the back of our house. There were always sketches or paintings on the drawing table.
Mom was the gardener who taught me to care for the outdoors...she came from Michigan, and so, influenced my love for the place. Mom made games and costumes and had such a creative mind. We would have flower and vegetable gardens and go for jaunts on the backroads.
I opened a storefront located in downtown Baldwin.
RED TREE CURIOSITIES! My shop is a haven for local artists and craftspeople. "Shop local" and "Buy Michigan Made" are now part of my daily mantra!
We still have Finn, the cat, and a dog named Triton plus half a dozen chickens!
I studied Environmental Design which combined my love of plants and conservation, with an outlet for artistic creativity.
I went back to art school and studied Sculpture, so I can weld if I need to!

My most recent project was in collaboration with the Village of Baldwin Mural Project. I created a 6 x4' mural representing my vision of Lake County, Michigan where Baldwin Is nestled.
In 2020 I opened Red Tree Curiosities at a brick and mortar shop in Baldwin

I carry the same sense of wonder about the earth that was instilled in me as a kid; the natural world is still an amazement every day.
Trees are a totem of mine, I have been drawing and photographing and painting them for decades.
Trees represent simultaneous strength and fragility; they stretch their branches upward while they hold onto the earth. They can be majestic alone, left to reach out in all directions to their full capacity. They can become a barrier, standing together in the forest. They are buffers to progress, as well as victims of it.
I take my camera everywhere, and while I won't turn down a good sunset picture, I am drawn to abandoned buildings.
My series "windows and doors" is meant to challenge the expectation of what we normally see when looking at a window or how a door now functions...trees often find their way into these photos in abstract ways to further distort the viewer's perception. My pictures inform my tree paintings and how I develop or distort the space.
I will alert you with new work, shows, or fine arts exhibits
